BioHackathon 2011が8/22(月)-26(金)の5日間にわたり、京都にて開催されるが、その公開シンポジウムが開催された。参加者は国内外から70名で、国外からは27名が招待されている。その様子はUSTREAMでライブ中継された。
BioHackathon 2011のテーマは”Linked Dataを扱うための技術開発”である。バイオサイエンスデータベースセンター (NBDC) とライフサイエンス統合データベースセンター (DBCLS) では、ライフサイエンス分野のデータベースの統合の基盤としてRDF の利用を推進している。医学生物学の異種多様なデータを統合するには RDF をLinked Data (RDF)の利用が有効と考えられるためである。BioHackathon 2011では、そのための技術開発を行う。オントロジーの整備からWebサービスやデータベース記述の標準化が必要になるが、国内外から主要な開発者が参加し、face-to-faceで顔をあわせて開発会議を行おうというものである。
